A NEW Regimen for Longer & Healthier Hair…

Let me just let you know the practices I do on MY hair may not have the same effect on your hair since all of our heads are different. What I would say, is to do trial and error until you find the best techniques and products for your hair. I recently big chopped my hair due to inconsistency, so I have a created a regimen to get me back on track first and then moving forward to achieving my hair goals.

Since moisturizing and sealing most almost non-existent in the last 6 months, my main focus was on moisture, moisture and more moisture.
Prepoo (pre-shampoo treatment)
Prepooing (pre-shampoo treatment) is a must! My two favourite’s are Aussie Moist Conditioner & Extra Virgin Coconut Oil.
For the 1st 2 weeks I prepooed with Aussie Moist Conditioner and 1 week with a 50/50 mix of Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. I sit under my hooded dryer between 15-30mins each time.
Shampooing
Shampooing weekly or biweekly with Crème of Nature Moisture and Shine Shampoo and ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo every 4-6 weeks or as needed
Deep Conditioning
Deep Conditioning is the most important step in my regimen for elasticity and strength. Since my hair lacked moisture I deep conditioned with my all time favorite of Queen Helene Cholesterol mixed with oils for 5 weeks straight. I did that to get back the elasticity I lost over those 6 months. I sit under my hooded dryer for 30-40mins each time.
Protein Treatment
Protein treatment will be done with Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment every 6-8 weeks. I’ll also use a light protein treatment with ORS Replenishing Conditioner once every 3 weeks.

This is will be my Deep conditioning schedule or as needed:
Moisture -> Moisture -> Light Protein -> Moisture -> Moisture -> Strong Protein/Light Protein -> Moisture ->Moisture
Leave In Conditioners
Leave In Conditioner is essential! I have been using Creme of Nature Strength and Shine Leave in Conditioner and my moisturizing mix which is made up of Aussie Moist Conditioner, water, oil. The way I used to apply my leave in conditioner previously wasn’t saturating my ends properly. I seemed to focus on the body of my hair and just a few pumps on my ends. Now I saturate my ends so I know for sure its receiving the moisture and strength it needs. Of course sealing is important to lock in that moisture and I use a 50/50 mixture of Extra Virgin Coconut oil & Extra Virgin Olive Oil, I actually use this mixture on my face daily.

Drying my Hair. During the colder months I relied on my hooded dryer to dry my roots but of course the heat will transfer to my ends, drying it out.  The weather hasn’t been the hottest but warm enough for me to airdry without the help of my hooded dryer.

Moisturizing
Moisturizing & Sealing is the final step to retain moisture. I chose to use Elasta QP Olive Oil &Mango Butter and seal with my 50/50 oil mix.

Styling my Hair. Since my chopI've been trying to maintain the thickness of my ends, therefore I don’t want to do any styles that may cause tension to my hair or too much manipulation. I chose to do mainly buns in different areas of my head every 3 days.

Overall I think this regimen has been working and will produce the fruits of my labor.

Have you made any major changes to your regimen?

  5. This looks like a great plan, Tomi! I wish you great results, love!

PS-You make me want to go back to Cholesterol. I used to use it back in the day and can't remember why I quit.

  6. This is a great regimen, and I'm liking your schedule. I probably need to write mine down as well because it does get a little chaotic and haphazard when I try to keep track of it all in my head. Great post, Tomes!

  7. I like your regimen Tomi. But like you said, it may not work for my hair. It has been doing so much better since I stopped using protein. Your hair is going so fast. I know it is working.
