1-2-3 Simple Steps For Bunning Your Hair…

Since my hair is now long enough to bun without the use of a scrunchie, I have taken full advantage of it. Afterall its less tension in one spot. You can secured it anywhere on your head with the help of 1 bobbi pin or clip.

Shortest Wash Day Ever…

I’m doing so much better and I want to thank everyone of you who reached out and sent well wishes. I truly appreciated it.  Being sick really drains your mood and I wasn't motivated to open my computer most days to share anything with you guys but i‘m back and trying to get back into my groove.  Let’s dive into the fastest washday I have had in a long time.

How I’ve Been Wearing My Hair Lately…

Once I get deep into my stretch, I like to see my edges laid because its looks neat and professional.  I always spray my moisturizing mix on my edges before apply aloe vera gel on my edges.  I opted not to brush my new growth, since the line of demarcation is so fragile but to use my hands to smoothen out my hair.  I was extremely surprised by the amount of new growth which you can see by the clear distinction between my colored hair and new growth.

Favorite Ways To Style My Relaxed Hair …

As much as I love touching and playing with my new growth I’m not ready to throw in the towel with the creamy crack. Pre-hair journey, I used to relax my hair every 6-8 weeks and now I can’t believe how little new growth I had at that stage and why I couldn't manage my hair back then. Knowledge is power!

Strong Protein Wash Day…

My hair loves protein and since it was missing pretty much from my last stretch, it was only fitting to incorporate it for my wash day. It’s no secret Aphogee has been my staple protein treatment to prepare my hair  before and after relaxer days.

What happened To My Hair Lately…

I haven’t been experimenting with different hair styles lately, since my goal for this relaxer stretch is to keep my ends hidden and protected with the occasional “cheat day” lol. I have been keeping up with my weekly washdays and treatments.

Wash Days I’ve Missed…

I wore my hair straight for two weeks after relaxing it. Honestly I was enjoying my straight hair so much that the thought of not washing my hair for the third week was a possibility. Until I started to see pimples popping up in my face, then I knew my scalp needed to be cleansed to avoid a massive breakout.

My Hair Lately…

I have skipped a couple of wash days because I haven’t been doing much to my hair.  My weekly regimen hasn't changed and my style of choice has been flexi-rods and buns. While bunning,  I used the tension method to stretch my new growth with a blow dryer. The tension method is simply stretching your new growth with your hand and blow drying your hair so it dries in that stretched state.  The tension method does a great job in stretching my new growth but the process could be tedious and overwhelming. If you’re strapped for time do not attempt this because, you could get frustrated and impatient which will lead to you mis-managing your hair, which ends up breakage. Flexi-rods is another great method to stretch your new growth.

Same Ole Wash Day…

I haven’t posted about my hair in a while because I haven’t been doing anything special to my hair for the last couple of weeks.  My weekly regimen has remained the same but styling has been as simple as possible. Take a look at how my hair has been lately.

What Happened To My Hair Lately…

I haven’t been doing anything special with my hair for the last couple of weeks but I have been keeping up with my weekly wash-days and treatments.  Due to time constraints, I haven’t been able to wear my hair out which may be beneficial to me in the long run right now.

HOTD: My Favorite New Hairstyle…

After experiencing my twist-out flop hairstyle, I needed something to save my hair. While playing in my hair I started to twist and roll and realized this could be a possible hairstyle to save the day.  From an old twist out, I just did a twist on both sides of my hair very loosely and tucked my ends on the inside. To secure the roll better, I used 3 bobbi pins.

Wash Day Post Relaxer…

I haven’t washed my hair in two weeks and my scalp was really feeling disgusted last week since its used to weekly washes.  I’ll admit I did miss washing my hair but time was against me last weekend.
My Washday Products
[1]   Prepooed with Coconut Oil on my scalp and on the length of my hair for 20mins with heat
[2]   Shampooed with ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo twice to make sure my scalp was thoroughly
cleaned after applying product to my hair for 2 weeks. Followed up with CON Moisture &
Shine Shampoo to add back some moisture to my hair.
[3]   Applied Aphogee 2 mins reconstructor to my ends for 2mins and rinsed.
[4]   Deep Conditioned with my Queen Helene Cholesterol mixture for 30mins and rinsed
[5]   Wrapped my hair in a t-shirt for 1hour to absorb the excess water.
[6]   Applied my leave-in conditioners of Silk Elements Color Care, my moisturizing cocktail
       and sealed with coconut oil.

I really wanted to try styling my hair different this week but laziness got the better half of me and I ended up air drying my hair.

[7]   The following day I applied Jamaican Black Castor Oil on my scalp, moisturized with
Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter and sealed with coconut oil.
Bunning as my protective style
I’ll be bunning all week long and I just realized how much texture was left at the top of my hair. Its abit too much but I’ll rally on till my next relaxer day and fix it then, instead of doing a corrective relaxer. This wash day was easy breezy and i'm loving bunning without filler.

How I've Been Wearing My Hair Lately…

During the last couple of weeks, towards ending my relaxer stretch, I tend to wear hair styles that require minimum manipulation and my ends protected.  I avoid using a comb during the week but moisturizing and sealing my entire head twice a week. Don’t panic, I usually moisturize and seal the outskirt of my hair daily. Three days later my hair on the  inside is still moisturized but I still moisturize all of my strands to ensure it doesn't dry out and become brittle.  There is no need to moisturize and seal entire my hair daily.  My deep conditioner usually does a great job with it's moisturizing properties.

It shouldn't come to no surprise that buns are on my list. I usually use a scrunchie around my hair twice before bunning. Once I’m finished I don’t even feel the scrunchie and my hair is still secured. I secure my buns with bobbi pins.

Wash Day: Buns And More Buns…

My plan for this wash day is exactly how Kim from Fancy Flair Lady wash day went. I haven’t tried roller setting since I started my healthy hair journey and was all hyped to do one with a saran wrap, so my hair ends up straight. My weekend was free and I went into super woman mode by cleaning, washing, while doing my hair. By the time I was ready to rinse my deep conditioner out I was totally drained and ended up air drying my hair.

Technique Thursday | Taking down Braids To Minimize Breakage..

Images not mine & found on Pinterest
A friend of mine installed box braids and wore it for 4 weeks and wanted to remove and relax her hair the following week. She unraveled, didn’t detangle and jumped into the shower to shampoo, while rinsing out her hair she realized her roots were matted and detangling was too difficult.  She applied her deep conditioner for 30mins and rinsed. After getting out the shower her entire head was matted and she called me panicking. It’s a good thing she knows I’m on a hair journey and take really good care of my hair if not she would have ended up with a pixie hair cut after having shoulder length hair. She said "Tomi my hair is matted and I don’t know what to do, I’m coming by you now”. I wasn't busy so I helped out my friend. Take a look at how much hair was lost during the un-matting session. Majority of it was shedded hair but there was some breakage.

Technique Thursday | Basics of Bunning...

It’s no secret that I opt to do buns first before any other protective style especially for work.  They are so neat and classy. They can be worn on almost all angles of your head. You can have a side bun, middle bun, high bun, low bun and the list goes on with how creative you can get. Feel free to add a side twist or braid to add some character to your face.

If you haven’t seen it yet check out how I do my buns below:

All of my buns aren’t always neat but they don’t have to be perfect. You will be surprise how well a style might turn out when its alil messy.

Simple Wash Day…

[1]   Scalp massage with Extra Virgin Olive Oil with (warmed) for 4mins. Applied EVOO to
the rest my hair for 30mins with heat.

[2]   I let my hair cool for 3mins and applied this mixture seen above on top of the oil applied.            My aim was to have a balanced deep conditioner as oppose to just moisture or protein.              Went under my heat cap for 45mins.  I hair felt so moisturized but yet strong which was
the effect I was going for.

[3]   Wrapped my hair in a T-shirt for 1hour to dry. Once my hair was 80% dry I sprayed all of
my roots with Mane n Tail detangler. Then applied my leave in conditioner of Aussie Moist
