My Bridal Make-Up Consultation Recap…

I had a bridal consultation with Renee Ifill from Next 2 Natural in Barbados.  I think consultations are important especially for brides, so you can see potentially see how you would look on your big day. It also helps to tweak any changes that you may notice after the consultation. For example, how long did the makeup last, how fast your face gets oily? All of these can be addressed so you look your absolute best on your wedding day.

I arrived at her studio which was very cozy. Outside was so hot that day that I welcomed the air conditioning in her studio to keep me cool and calm.  I explained to her the things I didn't like and let her work her magic.  I don’t like harsh contour lines on the nose at all.

Ignore this lip color as I’m definitely not wearing this on our day.  She used this lip color because that day was also our engagement photo shoot so she matched my lippie to my shirt. Isn't it pretty?

Throughout the consultation we talked and it wasn't weird at all. She has a bubbly personality which is awesome for that profession. She makes you feel at ease which is perfect.

She used Black Opal foundation and I could hardly feel the product on my face which was a bonus.  I got lashes for the first time y’all *wink wink* and I could feel them because they were the long dramatic ones. She doesn't plan on using these ones on our day but for the photo shoot purposes.  The reason I opted to arrange the consultation with the engagement shoot was to utilize my hard earned money. There is no way I’ll spend $50 BDS (US$25) and go home and wash that off, ain't nobody got time for that.  I would have utilized it somehow, whether hanging out with my girls or any other outing that would have been coming up.

So I've heard black opal isn't great for oily skin but you can share your views with me, remember I live in the tropics.  I have ever only used MAC on my face.  To my surprise Black Opal failed me as I was a total grease ball after the photo shoot somewhat 3 hours later.   I quickly snapped a photo and sent Renee my thoughts on the overall look.  She didn't panic but suggested using other products and I’m fine with that.

I don’t mind doing my own make-up but I know I’ll be in good hands with Next 2 Natural, plus my bestie would never allow that lol.  I like the fact that I still look myself with a pop of color.

How are or did you do your make-up for your wedding day? Bold or Neutral?

  1. The look is neutral and great for a bride. I will be following your posts carefully to see what other products you use and which one works well for your face because like you, I have a very oily face. When I wear make up my face becomes very shiny in a matter of hours.

    1. Thanks Scarlet Goal! Like Lydz mentioned below I have used Milk of Magnesia (MOM) as my primer when I know, I would be out for hours and want my face to remain matte and it definitely works. I wouldn't use it that often so my face doesn't get accustomed to it. Special occasions only. Renee also uses MOM so i'm sure that's what she would probably use on our day. Definitely try it and let me know if you like it.

  2. Love your bridal makeup! I have been thinking about mine too. I was going to say it's definitely a good idea to have a makeup artist like next to natural with you on your big day, as you will have soooo many other things to worry about. Your day is soon approaching!

  8. You look gorgeous! You have to be careful with Black Opal, it can definitely cause you to oil up. I'm a faithful user of Mac foundation and milk of magnesia as a primer!! Congrats on the engagement :)

  9. Girl, you look amazing. That makeup is perfect, not too much but also not too little, just the right amount to pop.

I am like you, a MAC girl all the way, so yeah stick with what you know works. I think everyone should get their makeup done for their wedding. One less thing to worry about plus it usually last so much longer.

Can't wait to see your engagement photos. The wedding is not far now, only a few months. How exciting.
