Tomes Edition Hair “TREATS” ::Spotlight:: Dionne’s Wash Day...

Over the course of my life I have been blessed with a lot of supportive friends that have been cheering me on from the sidelines, since I started my Healthy Hair Journey. So I decided as a token of my appreciation, to give some of them hair “Treats” compliments Tomes Edition. Without further adieu let’s introduce the lady that knows me inside and out and our friendship is 18 years strong and today’s highlight Ms Dionne..

Dionne isn't on a hair journey and wants to start a Healthy Hair Journey but she’s just too darn lazy even though she has thick beautiful full shoulder length hair.

::Let’s get to know Dionne alil bit more::

Dionne has been relaxed for 14 years and gets a relaxer 4 times a year. Straight off Dionne is practicing healthy hair habits by stretching her relaxer but she doesn't even know she is lol.  I had a look at the products she uses on her wash days which comprises of Elasta Soy OYL UltraHydration Shampoo and Deep Conditions with Elasta Dpr 11 Deep Penetrating Conditioner and moisturizes with Mizani Coconut Souffle Light Moisturizing Hairdress.  As you can see her products are protein heavy and I felt it on her strands which were rough. She also uses heat every wash day by blow drying and on relaxer day as well.

Finally A Braid-Out I Like

My wash day was pretty much the same as I usually do (here) and these are my Leave-in Conditioners I used to achieve my braid-out.  I applied Aussie Moist Conditioner (I really love this stuff), Herbal Essences Split End Protector and sealed with Hot Six Oil. I did about 12 braids on damp hair and I like this result the best. My hair wasn't completely dry 3 hours later when I unraveled the braids. If I want loose curls I’ll do two cornrow braids going backwards but for tighter curls, I’ll do individual or smaller cornrows to achieve this look.

Lessons Learn't so far on My Hair Journey (Shedding)

Over the next couple of months I am going to be sharing through a series of blog post, some of the experiences I have had whilst being on my healthy hair journey as well as highlighting the varied lessons learnt. Today’s highlight features Shedding.

What is Shedding?

Shedding is a natural process where our hair has reached the end of its growing cycle, which is usually between 4-6 years.  They are usually long strands of hair with a white bulb at the top of the strand. On average most women shed about 50-100 hairs a day, but sometimes you might start to notice more than normal hair loss on your bathroom floors, bathroom drains, which

Natural Hair Feature - Spotlight: Jodi's Hair Journey...

I was browsing through my Facebook news feed one day and saw an old school mate post a picture of his wife’s hair and I was in total amazement. I immediately sent him a private message to politely ask if his wife will be so kind to be featured on Tomes Edition to share her story with you guys and she graciously accepted. My Vacation to New York, Toronto and Calgary...

I went on holiday for 2 weeks as you may have known and I enjoyed every minute of it.  Travelling to Calgary from Barbados is usually very expensive so an opportunity came up and I decided to grab it fast   I haven’t seen my good friend Nikita in like forever so the opportunity to hang with her, I took it in a heartbeat. I've never been to New York before so I needed someone to show me around - Nikita was an awesome guide; we got to see so many places in the short space of time of 1 1/2 days. In addition her accommodating tour guide skills, she also makes unique jewelry and her pieces can be found at (LaNomRahDesigns), be sure to check it out!!! From NYC we went onto spend 1 day in Toronto with Kevin’s cousin and the other days were spent in Calgary with my family.

Take a look at some of the stuff I got to do and the people I spent my vacay with.

One Year Hair Anniversary…

Time flies so quickly and I can’t believe I have been on my Healthy Hair Journey for a year now and feeling really blessed to see how well my hair is blossoming. June 2012 was when I started my hair journey, you can check out how and why I started my (Healthy Hair Journey).

My Hair Journey hasn't been a walk in the park but I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far.  I don’t have any regrets but I do wish I started my Hair Journey sooner, better late than never right.

Have a look at how my hair has been over the year so far and looking forward to meeting many more goals in the future. I started off at Full Neck / Shoulder Length and now I’m grazing APL. Over the last year I wore braid-outs (still have to master this), Bantu Knots, Buns, Flexi-Rods, Inside Cornrow/French Braid and Faux Bobs.

First 4 month stretch:

How I Wore My Hair During My Vacation…

I really wanted to keep my hair styles simple but chic during my vacation.  I was planning to do a braid-out and flexi-Rod set but that didn't happen.  The weather wasn't the best so I did a lot of protective styles to keep my ends well tucked away.  Have a look at how I wore my hair during my vacation.
