I relaxed my hair myself at 16 weeks post relaxer with 2 boxes of ORS Relaxer in Normal Strength. My routine hasn't changed from how I prep my hair for relaxer day and how it actually goes as seen here.
Relaxer Day Results: Flat Ironed Hair |
I started at the top right hand corner and worked myself around my entire head in 18 mins. I spent 12mins for application and 6 mins smoothing out the relaxer with my fingers. I didn't want my hair bone straight so I didn't use a comb to smoothen out the hair. I only used two scoops from the 2nd mixture box. I didn't want to run out of relaxer during the process.

[1] I hopped into the shower and rinsed my hair thoroughly.
[2] Applied ApHogee Intensive Two Minute Keratin Reconstructor for 2 mins and rinsed to
add back some strength.
add back some strength.
[3] Shampooed with ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo 3 times and rinsed.
[4] Deep conditioned with ORS Replenshing Pak, as I sat under my hooded dryer for 30mins.
[5] Rinsed & I dyed my hair again with Bigen in the color Vibrant Red & I sat under
my hooded dryer for 25mins with the dye and rinsed. I followed up with Aussie Moist
Conditioner to add back some softness to my hair, remove the excess dye and mask
some of the smell. I’m getting better at removing the dye from my scalp on the same day.

[7] My leave-in conditioners were Creme of Nature Strength and Shine [new product alert]
and alittle of Aussie moist Conditioner and sealed with Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. Once my
hair was 90% dry I decided to sit under my hooded dryer to dry my roots which were still
damp on warm temperature.

The following day, I flat ironed my hair. I sprayed my hair with Tresemme Heat Tamer Spray
which is a heat protectant and sealed with Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. I did one pass on majority of my hair and two passes on my crown since that’s the thickest part of my hair. While flat ironing I noticed my strands were sticking together and it really showed when I was finished. Moral of the story DON’T add oil before flat ironing but afterwards. I didn’t put anything on my hair for the rest of the week so the oil would have absorbed and I could take a decent length check pic which will be up in a subsequent post. My hair was bone straight which felt flat and strange. All of my texlaxed ladies will understand exactly where I’m coming from.

I’ll be honest and let you know my hair hasn't been in its best shape over this stretch and I plan to return to my usual regimen of pampering my hair weekly. Look out for the post of my thoughts on this last stretch.
Overall I’m pleased with my results but I do know I need to work on my ends which is was lacked during this stretch. I did trim 1/4 inch of my ends and will dust as I see fit.

ReplyDeleteThank you Aurora!
DeleteYour touch-up came out well. Your hair is beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joie!
DeleteGirl I know what you mean about not pampering your hair as normal. This Monday I had no choice but to wash my hair since it had been 3 weeks in a bun (I know, I know smh). Glad your relaxer was successful for you, it looks good! Don't worry the oil will wash out lol
ReplyDeleteYes Kay, life happens but we need to get back on track.
DeleteI love your results, Tomes! Adding protein is very important after a relaxer. Great tips!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Nerline!
DeleteLove your results! Thank God for a successful relaxer stretch. Your hair just gets so beautiful after every relaxer stretch!
ReplyDeleteThank you Judith!
DeleteYour hair looks great! I love reading your updates
ReplyDeleteThank you Shala!
DeleteI love your hair color! Do you typically color and relax on the same day?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your #washdayexperience

Yes I do!
DeleteSometimes, life gets in the way. Your hair is great.
ReplyDeleteThank you Abena!
DeleteYour hair looks healthy to me so it appears you're doing something right. I read using evco is a great heat protectant but I'm just not sold. Adding oil before flat ironing can really leave the hair limp. I like using serum but even that can be a bit too heavy if overused.

I guess because i applied Oil twice. Once sealing my leave in conditioner and 2nd before flat ironing. I think its great especially for shine but a double dose just didn't work this time.
DeleteYour hair is growing leaps and bounds. You will be MBL and Waist Length in no time. You have come a long way and you have beautiful hair. Would love to have your hair. Gorgeous color too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kara!
DeleteYou better swang that pony girl! Your hair looks great!
ReplyDeletelol, thanks Andrea!
DeleteGreat results, Tomes. Sorry about the mishap with the oil. Your hair looks good regardless.
ReplyDeleteThanks Uzoma, better luck next time for sure
DeleteGreat progress, your hair is still looking awesome! I totally agree with you on the oil, it makes my hair look limp and flat with the flat ironing... How would you compare the ORS no-lye relaxer with the lye relaxer?
ReplyDeleteMY new growth processed alot faster than i expected but i'm not sure if i'm sold on the no-lye
DeleteLove your results! Didn't know you colour and relax on the same day. And 2 boxes of relaxer, but yes better safe than over under processed 😋
ReplyDeleteAs long as its a rinse/semi permanent its safe and fine. Couldn't afford to run out of relaxer lol even though i didn't use much of the second one
DeleteGorgeous results Tomes. Your ends look great to me x
ReplyDeleteThanks Lesley!
DeleteCongrats on finishing another stretch! Ahhhh the ends struggle...girl I know it all too well. Now that you're going to focus on them, I'm certain they will be beautiful next stretch. And there is nothing wrong with enjoying freshly relaxed hair girl, let it whip!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ebony!
DeleteYour hair looks great! I totally get what you mean about your hair feeling flat and bone straight. Every time I flat iron after a touch up my hair feels that way, I usually can't wait to wash it so it can puff out again.
ReplyDeleteThanks Candice, can't wait to show my blow dried hair instead of flat ironed.
DeleteYour hair looks amazing and so do your ends, lovely progress!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tonkabelle!
DeleteFab relaxer results. Your jair looks lovely and the ponytail looks nice and thick.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peechy!
DeleteYour ponytail is everything to me,love love.

Thank you Dup!
DeleteGreat results! I was inspired to get the Kiss Truly Red colour, which is relaxer safe because of your blog. I am yet to do it because I want to make sure that I have a solid plan to deal with the dryness. Can you please say why you have now switched to the Bigen brand? Have a good one
ReplyDeleteI was unable to find the kISS brand anywhere. I usually use Bigen on my Mom's hair after i relax it as well, so i figured its the next best brand to try out. I would say its not as bright as i thought it would be in my hair. Bigen is a nice substitute but not nearly as bright as Kiss. I wish you luck in your healthy hair journey and remember consistency is key to reaping rewards.
DeleteWow, Tomes, looking good, looking good. Great stretch. Your hair is looking so healthy. Keep on smiling because you sure are doing an awesome job
