HOTD: Flat Twist Out Fail…

I have been admiring some gorgeous twist-out on Instagram lately and decided to give it a try.  I carried out my usual wash day but used Fruit of Earth Aloe Vera Gel to help define my twist-out. I started on the right hand side of my head and realized the twist were extremely loose and didn't know how to tighten it. I figured it will turn out as a loose wave and I was fine with that.  Can you believe when I got to the last two twists I figured out how to flat twist tighter.  Since I used gel and my hair was starting to get hard, I didn't bother to re-do all the twist.

I left the twists in for 24hours before unraveling them with coconut oil in my palms.  It definitely didn't turn out like I hoped and will get the twisting right next time.

By the time I got home my hair was like a poof ball 9 hours later. My ends were as dry as the Sahara desert.  I grabbed my Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter to give my ends some life and sealed with coconut oil.
Flat Twist Out 9 Hours Later
During my wash-day I experienced some breakage when detangling, that’s why I hardly wear these types of styles. I'm not giving up on perfecting this hair style.

Have you tried flat twist-out yet?

  1. I love the texture I get from braidouts and twist outs. It still looks pretty good 9 hours later, throw it in a cute faux bob and there you go!

  4. Hi Tomi, I'm sorry you experienced breakage. I did as well this wash day. Your hair turned out nice, with some good wave to it. You'll knock it out the park next time....I'm sure of it.

  5. It looked really great at first. Can I use the green aloe very gel too? My twist outs don't last either.

  7. I use to do flat twist outs all of the time and loved them! Next time, try doing a double layer of twists in the back instead and do Bantu knots instead of rollers. Works for me!

  8. Dude, these are always a failure for me. Maybe my hair is not thick or long enough. It always looks so good on youtube on other ladies but when I do it, I am so not impressed. Try bantu knots those always seem to work for me
