I Big Chopped…

Yes I did! Before you think I've given up on the creamy crack, I have not.  I’m not going natural, atleast not anytime soon. I’m pretty happy with my relaxed hair. I got my hair cut at Iconic Hair Salon by Keisha.  She was professional and the service was great.

I previously went to another salon to get my hair trimmed and the Salon director couldn't decide who to trim my hair. At this point my husband said I should have walked out. The chosen stylist was so scared to handle my hair. She ended up cutting an inch all around my hair.  I honestly didn't feel comfortable but she did show me how much she was cutting off. I knew I needed to find a salon that catered to black hair.

I’ll show you exactly why I wanted so much cut off in my next post but I’m just sharing with you my first good salon experience in Canada. Take a look at the process on getting my ends back in shape.

We talked and I told her I wanted to share with you guys her process of her cutting my hair and she agreed to me taking photos. I can't remember when last my hair was this short which sounds strange because my hair has been shorter than this all my adult life until the last 3 years.

This is my final result. I love and I’m proud of my ends now. The hardest part is to maintain this thickness and I have all plans to do so.  Overall I enjoyed my experience at Iconic Salon. The sitting area is sectioned off from the actual salon so I wasn't able observe the hair practices to see if I would get my hair washed or relaxed there.

When was the last time you trimmed your hair & How do you trim?

  3. I was going to ask you if your hubby took the pictures, but you answered my question. I think your hair looks healthy. And I am sure the talking helped calm your nerves a little. I get anxious when I get my hair cut by a professional. I do my own trimming, Tomi. I get rid of any part of my ends that does not curl up. Big hugs babe!

  5. Tomi, I got so nervous when I headed over to read this post! I'm glad you were able to find a salon that you could trust for your trim and caters to your needs. I'm still leaning on hubby for my trim lol. Your hair looks great, love. And I wish you the best in all of your hair goals!

  6. I get my hair trimmed every 6 weeks and I did a chop (not as big as yours) but a chop nonetheless back in march. I don't like it when I feel that I need to do it but I'm all for the big chop. I love choppy clean ends and a fresh cut with shorter hair is always better than longer hair with thin ends in my book. Your hair looks super healthy!!

  7. That is why i always dust my ends when necessary and not on a fixed schedule to keep it in shape to avoid a huge trim. Nice cut though.

  8. Oh my gosh! You cut so much but the nice healthy ends are worth it! And it seems you found a stylist that cared and listened to your needs which is a huge plus. I need to go ahead and big chop but with going natural I know the shrinkage will be unreal and I'm a little scared to lose that length. Any way, your hair looks great!

  9. Your ends look great!!! So thick and healthy. I definitely yelled OMG out loud when I saw your IG post, thinking that you big chopped in the "I'm going natural, lemme cut it all off" sense lol.

  10. Wow this is a real cut. I know you weren't going natural but didn't know you were cutting it this much. Your ends are definitely thick now. Can't wait to read the reasons why!!

  12. I saw the title and thought you were going natural! The trim/cut looks good. I last trimmed my hair in June and I had a stylist do it. I was a bit worried but my ends look much better.

  13. Your hair looks gorgeous. I love how thick it is and the blunt ends are my favorite. I don't know what happened to my hair but I felt through my hair and saw chunks of broken pieces in the back section. I was so disappointed so last week I chopped it off to a Bob. I love it but it needs a professional to even it out. I rather have short hair than thin uneven raggedy ends.

  16. It's still thick and beautiful! A lil sad you cut it though. Guess we are all attached to another person's long hair. All the best with maintaining the thickness and blunt ends.

  17. Hehehe when I read the title of your post I thought you were doing a bigger chop than this and going all the way natural. Your ends are looking awesome and healthy Tomi. Looking forward to the next post to see why you cut off so much more than we expected from a trim

  18. I've been meaning to get over here and check out this post since I saw your instagram post. Tomes, I'm proud of you! I have been fighting with myself internally about doing something like this for a while now, but it is so hard to let go of the length. Right now, your hair is looking so good! I can't wait to see future posts with your hair at this length. Congrats!

  19. I do miss the length but i know with better health the length will come. Thanks Kim!

  20. Oh wow! I like it! Blunt cuts often look nice. Do you plan on maintaining it at that length or will you grow it out again?

  21. Perfect ends! Love it! I'm about to do the same thing and i'm really excited about it! The more i'm on this hair journey, the less i'm obsessed with length. Better having healthy short hair than long uneven hair :)
    Thanks for sharing :-) !!
