Wash Day with Bantu-Knot Out #Fail...

I felt so lazy that morning because I couldn't decide how to style my hair after my wash day perhaps Flexi-Rods, Roller Set, Bantu –knots I don’t know.
Note: I ALWAYS detangle prior to starting my wash day.

[1]   Prepooed with Extra Virgin Coconut Oil mixed with some peppermint oil on my scalp and
a bunch of conditioners that I’m trying to get rid of, mixed with some honey on the length
of my hair for 20mins under my heat cap.
[2]   Shampooed with Aussie Moist Shampoo diluted with water and a few drops of peppermint
oil because it strips my hair. Followed up with CON Moisture & Shine Shampoo and rinsed.
[3]   Applied Aphogee Two Minute Keratin Reconstructor for 3 mins and rinsed.
[4]   Deep Conditioned with Elasta QP Intense Fortifying Conditioning Treatment (first use) for
30 mins under my heat cap.  First Impressions it smells great and has a lot of slip. I did not        mix anything with it because I want to see if the product proclaims its word.
[5]   Wrapped my hair in a t-shirt for 1hr to absorb the excess water
[6]   Applied Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer, Aussie Moist Conditioner
Herbal Essences Split-End Protector (on my ends) and Extra Virgin Coconut Oil to my
hair and detangling has been a breeze so far since I’m only 3 weeks post relaxer.
[7]   After an hour my hair was completely air dried and so moisturized and shiny.
[8]   Oiled my scalp with Jamaican Black Castor Oil and moisturized with my

After seeing KLP from (Saving Our Strands) doing some fabulous Bantu-Knot Out not stop, I

decided to style my hair this way. I did 16 knots in total. I did two strand twists first then twisted around to form the knot.

My Bantu Knot Out was an epic fail as you can see above *argh* sad thing is, I left those knots in for 48 hours and I don’t like the results at all. It bugs me when all of your efforts are in vain and the style is a complete flop.  Only the left side came out right. After pinning one side and seeing the back I threw on my clip to make it look tamed.  I’m not ready to throw in the towel yet but not sure when next I’ll be doing this style.

How was your last wash day & Do you rock Bantu-Knot Out often?

  1. I love how you styled it with the clip and the side curls. Very cute. I have yet to try bantu knot outs. I very rarely do any curly styles because I worry about up-keep and tangles. This is something I do want to eventually try though. Nice results, Tomi.

  3. I love the way that you styled your #fail! You're better than I, I usually say forget it and throw all of my hair up into a bun. Ha-ha!

I tried doing the double strand twist then bantu knotting and it NEVER NEVER EVER works for my hair. Regular old bantu knots for this chica!

  4. Those curls are beautiful! I love it that you did it with no heat. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out something similar to do when I go on vacation in a few months. There will be swimming involved and I do not want to be blow drying my hair.

  5. In Jamaica they're called china bumps; however I dont think this was a fail...do an updo and leave the front out - you have great definition.

  7. This was SO not a fail! I used to do bantu knots all the time back in college, but now, a simple bun works best for me. Hope you try it again and like the results!

  8. I totally know what you mean! I like the way your curls turned out, but I always have the same issue of one side that looks good and one side that...doesn't!! I don't know what the problem could be, I'll keep trying tho. Nice save, too!

@ Neisha - I'll definitely give them another try without doing two strand twist first
@ Melanie - Looking forward to seeing your results

  14. Your hair was definitely not a fail-- it looks great to me! Your curls are so defined! Mine never turn out quite right so I've given up on them lol.

  16. Your curls look very cute!! My bantu knot outs are a fail 75% of the time, unsalvageable, and yours look good! Maybe next time only start twisting once your hair is dry, apply the curl product to dry, but moisturized hair and the start twisting and forming your knots. I know that trying to twist even just slightly damp hair equals a birds nest on top of my head.
