Technique Thursday | How To Keep Your New Growth Moisturized…

Since I stretch my relaxer from 14weeks to 18weeks, at about 10weeks post relaxer my new growth starting popping up and keeping my new growth moisturized is important, to avoid breakage at the line of demarcation (where new growth meets relaxed hair).  There are several ways and I’ll share with you the ways I keep my new growth moisturized and happy.

[1]   Deep Condition your hair regularly and make sure to apply it like you are applying relaxer, so all your strands are saturated with product. Choose products that have ingredients of water and other moisturizing agents at the beginning of the list. For example Olive Oil, avocado oil, honey, glycerin. Use a steamer or heat cap to help boost the deep conditioning effect.

[2]   Apply Jamaican Black Castor Oil to your new growth. This keeps my new growth moisturized for atleast 3days before I need to re-apply. This oil is thick and is the business.

[3]   Make a moisturizing spray with an extremely moisturizing co-wash conditioner. The additions are entirely up to you but for me I add some detangler, natural oil and some water. Other items you can add are glycerin, Aloe Vera juice. Spray your new growth with your mixture as often as your hair desires.

[4]   Grab your best water based moisturizer and focus on all strands of your hair especially your new growth and ends. Take a look at how I moisturize and seal my hair.

[5]   You can opt to co-wash midweek of your wash days to give your new growth a boost of moisture if you find your hair feels crunchy/dry.
